Everybody deserves their night to shine and Encore St Kilda brings these dreams to life. Steve’s milestone 50th birthday celebration was no exception.
Imagine stepping back in time to the roaring 20s. The film industry is taking off, consumerism is on the rise, radio makes timely news more accessible than ever and jazz has society collectively captivated.
As you enter the celebration, pulled back velvet ruby curtains reveal a candlelit hallway to another era. Fairy lights illuminate round tables clad with black velvet tablecloths, dotting the space to seat an intimate number of six guests to emulate an authentic jazz club. Cabaret dancers adorn corners of the event space – one fans blue feathers and the other perches in a giant martini glass, blowing bubbles over guests.
A full house looks like a scene from The Great Gatsby with ladies adorned in pearls, fur, feathers and delicate lace. Gentlemen opt for textured velvet suits, or a pop of colour with silk shirts or a bold bowtie. Impressive Cheese and Antipasto Stations, Seafood Stations and San Sebastian Stations have guests grazing to their hearts content and a vodka luge ice sculpture at the bar is too exciting not to partake in.
Not only is the birthday party on the beach, overlooking St Kilda Beach, Port Phillip Bay and over the water to the You Yangs, the musical line-up is something to behold.
The Melbourne Ska Orchestra’s live nine-piece performance on stage makes for impressive live entertainment, to then be topped by entering the large dance floor crowd for an immersive and interactive show. Steve’s guests are having the boogie of their lives, only to pause for speeches and a guitar performance by Steve himself, backed by the Orchestra.
It was an epic St Kilda Birthday celebration to remember, with Steve as the man of the hour. The guests commenting that it is the best 50th Birthday event in Melbourne for the decade.
