Supplier Spotlight: Matt & Jacques Photography

Our Supplier Spotlight series is all about celebrating the creatives who help bring our weddings to life. From photographers and florists to stylists and entertainers, these are the people who work behind the scenes to shape each couple’s experience in a meaningful way. In this feature, we shine a light on partners who share our values of connection, creativity and authenticity, and who understand that the most memorable weddings are built on real moments, not just beautiful details.

Meet Matt & Jacques

At Encore St Kilda, we are proud to work with creative partners who understand that weddings are not just a sequence of events, but deeply human experiences. Matt & Jacques are a photography duo and best mates who document weddings as they truly unfold, placing honesty, connection and emotion at the centre of everything they do.

“Our role is to tell your story honestly, guiding you just enough so you feel comfortable, confident and completely yourselves,” they explain. Photographing every wedding together, they blend experience, artistry and connection to create images that do not just look beautiful, but feel like the moment itself. Their goal is timelessness and authenticity. “We want you to look back decades from now and think, ‘Damn, we look amazing,’ but also remember exactly how it felt in that moment.”

Their Journey Into Wedding Photography

Their journey into wedding photography began with a lifelong love of capturing the world around them. While photography was always part of their lives, it was photographing people that changed everything.

“Those fleeting, genuine interactions, the laughter, the hugs, the little glances, that is the stuff that makes hearts skip a beat and memories last a lifetime,” they share. That realisation drew them toward weddings and continues to guide their approach today, allowing them to document not just how a wedding looks, but how it truly feels.

Photographing Weddings at Encore and Why It’s Special

Photographing weddings at Encore St Kilda has been a standout experience for Matt & Jacques. “What makes Encore so special is not just the beachside setting, although the views are incredible. It is the people,” they share. “The team is fun, relaxed and professional, which makes capturing the day effortless.”

Combined with beautiful natural light and a thoughtfully designed layout, Encore is, in their words, “a dream space to photograph.” The atmosphere allows couples to feel at ease and present, creating the kind of genuine moments that translate effortlessly into timeless imagery.

One wedding at Encore in particular has stayed with them. It was a big Italian celebration filled with energy, love and joy from start to finish. “We cried, laughed and even ended up on the groom’s shoulders by the end of the night,” they recall. The couple even slipped away with their entire bridal party for a McDonald’s cheeseburger before entering the reception, choosing fun and connection over tradition. “Iconic,” they say.

Moments like these perfectly reflect what Matt & Jacques love most about photographing weddings at Encore. The space allows couples to feel relaxed, present and truly themselves, creating the kind of genuine, unforgettable moments that translate effortlessly into timeless imagery.

Finding Their Rhythm at Every Wedding With Moments That Stand Out

Matt & Jacques describe their style as authentic, heartfelt and timeless. Their approach is centred around letting the day unfold naturally, stepping in with gentle guidance only when needed. “Your wedding is unique to you. Our job is to tell your story the way you want to remember it,” they say.

Every wedding has its own rhythm, and for them, that rhythm always comes back to people. “We watch for the little interactions that reveal genuine connection,” they explain. Building a strong relationship with each couple before the wedding day is key. “Getting to know you deeply allows us to capture images that feel real, not just beautiful.”

With over a decade in the wedding industry and nearly three decades of photography experience between them, they create a relaxed and supportive environment. “Most people are not natural models and that is completely fine. We create a safe space where you can just be yourselves.” This approach leads to moments that linger long after the day itself, from quiet glances to unforgettable celebrations, including a standout Italian wedding where laughter, tears and even a late night cheeseburger run became part of the story. “Iconic,” they say.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to choosing a wedding photographer, Matt & Jacques believe connection is everything. “Do not book based on beautiful images alone. Trust and comfort matter most,” they advise. They also encourage couples to think long term. “You are not just investing in photos. You are investing in memories that will matter decades from now.”

Looking ahead, their hope is simple. “For some couples it is joy and fun. For others it is family and connection. Our job is to preserve those emotions so you can return to them again and again.”

They sum up their philosophy perfectly with one final thought:
“A wedding photograph endures because it captures a real moment, a genuine feeling and a story you can return to long after the day itself has passed.”
